Expedition
The following is a specialised list of gear for your expedition. You will need to bring all your personal belongings in a LABELLED GARBAGE BAG, as you will be issued a backpack/rucksack on arrival. Please note you are carrying all your own belongings and will need to label and name them. For your safety and comfort your packs need to be as light as possible, therefore please pack only what is listed. Keeping in mind you will also be carrying shared group gear and food!
CLOTHING ESSENTIALS

- Sun smart hat
- Beanie/Ear Wrap
- Scarf/Buff
- Gloves
- Thermals (Top and Bottom)
- Raincoat/jacket – must be Waterproof. No ponchos.
- Thick Socks – a pair for each day + Extra’s
- Underwear

- Hiking Pants (Leggings, Tracksuit Pants, Loose Cotton)*Jeans not appropriate for hiking/canoeing.
- T-Shirts – NO crop tops or singlets.
- 2 Jumpers – lightweight but warm (wool, fleece or down is recommended).
- Comfortable & sturdy walking/hiking shoes with good grip that don’t promote blisters (not new), must be enclosed.

SWIMMING ESSENTIALS

- Sturdy old shoes must be enclosed (No crocs or thongs).

TOILETRY ESSENTIALS
|
- Toothpaste & Toothbrush
- Wet wipes
- Deodorant – roll on preferred
- Hand sanitiser, small bottle

- Insect repellent
- Sunscreen
- Personal medication

BEDDING ESSENTIALS
|
- Sleeping Bag – these should have comfort temperature rating of at least 2 degrees Celsius for our winters. Please note these are required to fit inside your rucksack, a single person size is preferable.
- Light insulated foam mat, yoga mat or sleeping mat

OTHER ESSENTIALS
|
- Plate / bowl / cup and utensils
- Sturdy Water Bottles (MINIMUM 4 LITRES)
|
- Roll of garbage bags (Must be durable for waterproofing, as well as wet/dirty clothes)
- Head torch or small torch
- Spare batteries for torch

PLEASE DO NOT BRING
|
- Electronics to camp i.e. Mobile phones, IPods etc. They are not allowed at camp and do tend to get wet and muddy and may get lost or broken.
- Lollies, sweets, biscuits etc.
- Pocket, flick or steak knives
- Flimsy water bottles that easily crack or break, for example:

Some things to keep in mind leading up to your expedition with Kokoda Outdoor Education:
- If you have a pre-existing injury, please consider whether or not it is suitable and can be managed remotely otherwise please contact Justin Greger (Operations Manager).
- Please do not bring brand new shoes, timberlands, steel caps, or blundstone style boots– these shoes are not suitable for hiking.
- All cutlery and utensils should be NON-disposable, steel or hard plastic is suitable.
- Personal medication can include: bandaids, blister plasters, strapping tape.
Please note: We do request that all items are labelled with your name. Lost property will only be kept for one week, we are happy to post it back to you at your own expense or you can collect it from Camp Kokoda.
